Declining by Degrees

Thoroughly depressing. Too depressing for me to consider fully in this venue. Writing a real post about it would wind me up as thoroughly as watching it did, but its editorial perspective merits at least a bulleted recap.
* teachers teach best when freed from the pressure of tenure
* large universities undervalue teaching
* Because of skyrocketing costs coupled with dwindling aid, a college degree (even at STATE U) is quickly becoming an unreachable goal for all but the wealthiest segements of society.
* There are no jobs but adjunct jobs
* Traditional 18-23 year old students are sheltered, pampered, and lazy.
* Grade Inflation. Grade Inflation. Grade Inflation
(The film does not, however, tease out the connection between these last two. In my mind there is a fundamental link between grade inflation and the lack of intellectual curiosity in large cross sections of this generation of students.)
